The Finer Details

Stability & Storage Tips:
• Refrigerate to extend shelf life (up to 1 month).
• Use amber glass bottles (UV light degrades HOCl).
• Avoid mixing with vinegar, ammonia, or hydrogen peroxide (can create toxic gases).

Safety Notes:
✅ Safe for skin at ≤100 grams per litre (no gloves needed).
⚠️ At 500+ grams per litre, wear gloves/eye protection (can irritate).
🚫 Never ingest concentrated HOCl (>500 grams per litre).

HOCl (hypochlorous acid) is a highly effective disinfectant, sanitizer, and oxidizing agent with broad-spectrum antimicrobial properties.

1. Disinfectants & Sanitizers
HOCl replaces:
• Bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite, NaOCl) – Less corrosive and non-toxic.
• Quaternary Ammonium Compounds (Quats) – No residue or resistance buildup.
• Hydrogen Peroxide (H₂O₂) Disinfectant – More stable and less irritating.
• Alcohol-based sanitizers (e.g., ethanol, isopropanol) – Non-drying to skin and more effective against some pathogens.
• Phenolic disinfectants (e.g., Lysol) – Safer for humans and the environment.

2. Water Treatment
• Chlorine gas (Cl₂) & Chloramine (NH₂Cl) – Safer handling, no harmful byproducts like    trihalomethanes (THMs).
• Bromine-based pool treatments – Less irritating to eyes and skin.

3. Wound Care & Medical Applications
• Povidone-iodine (Betadine) – Non-stinging and non-toxic to healing tissues.
• Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) for wound cleaning – Gentler and more effective at low concentrations.
• Antibiotic ointments (for minor infections) – Reduces bacterial load without antibiotic resistance concerns.

4. Food Safety & Agriculture
• Peracetic acid (PAA) in food processing – Effective against pathogens like E. coli and Salmonella without toxic residues.
• Chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) for produce washing – Safer for workers and consumers.
• Synthetic pesticides (in some cases) – Can reduce microbial contamination on crops.

5. Veterinary & Animal Care
• Chlorhexidine solutions – Non-irritating for pet wound care.
• Iodine-based teat dips (in dairy farming) – Less harsh on cow udders.

6. Household Cleaners
• Vinegar & baking soda mixtures (for disinfection) – HOCl is a stronger antimicrobial.
• Ammonia-based cleaners – No harmful fumes.

Advantages of HOCl Over Traditional Products:

✅ Non-toxic at proper concentrations (safe for skin, pets, and food contact).
✅ No harmful residues – Breaks down into water and salt.
✅ Broad-spectrum efficacy – Kills bacteria, viruses (including enveloped viruses like SARS-CoV-2), fungi, and spores.
✅ Environmentally friendly – No persistent chemical buildup.
